Q. Phyllis, in your new book, Astrology's Secrets to Hot Romance, you encourage people to ask people they're attracted to "What's Your Sign?" Can astrology really help a person in dating and in love?
A. Astrology can absolutely help in dating and romance and in every other kind of relationship as well! That's because along with being unique individuals, we also think, act, and love a lot like our astrological signs say we do. Knowing astrology can give you tremendous insight into other people's personalities: their likes, their dislikes, even how to attract them and best engage with them.
Q. Ok, let's put it to the test. I'm a Cancer. What does that say about me?
A. The first thing it tells me is that you're a Water Sign, along with Scorpios and Pisces. Water signs tend to be very emotional and sensitive and are attracted to people who they feel a compelling connection with. They're by far the happiest in relationships with people who are emotionally available and who broadcast a safety that says, "You can express most anything to me." Water Signs want to see their partners trying to understand them, particulary in the feelings department.
The beautiful thing about Water Signs is they want to commit, they can commit and yearn to feel they are merging fully and deeply with the person they love -intimacy is what makes the world go 'round for Cancers, Scorpios and Pisces!
Q. Doesn't everybody want to have a deep connection with someone?
A. Yes, but different signs want to deeply connect in different ways. Whereas Water Signs connect emotionally, the Fire Signs, which include Aries, Leos and Sagittarians seek partners who excite and challenge them, who do things that inspire them and who stand up to the power they exude. Fire Signs love companions who make romance a wild, thrilling ride of intoxicating passions and pagentry. It isn't so much about sharing feelings with them.
Q. Are there some signs that just won't commit?
A. I think most every sign craves intimacy, but each sign has varying degrees and expressions of intimacy and commitment. The Air Signs - that's Geminis Aquarians, and occasionally due to their indecisiveness, Libras, have a reputation for being hard to catch. Usually that's because they are so social and like so many different kinds of peole, it can be hard for them to choose just one.
Q. What's the best way to capture an Air Sign's heart?
A. By for the best way to capture an Air Sign's heart is through their mind - you've got to be intellectually exciting, witty, and engaging to keep them interested.
Q. How can you win a commitment from the commitment-skittish signs?
A. One way you can win a commitment from commitment-resistant signs, such as Gemini, Aquarius, Sagittarius and even Aries and Libra is to show them how life is more exciting and adventurous with you than without you. And, give them plenty of room to wander and explore. They're sure to go off with their friends, but they'll also come home to you refreshed and happy, wagging their tails behind them.
Q. You haven't mentioned the Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Is that because they're boring in love?
A. Absolutely not! As a matter of fact, Earth Sign Taurus is one of the sexiest signs of the zodiac, even though Scorpio has the reputation for it. (The difference, by the way, is Scorpio is masterful in the art of seduction while sensual Taurus likes getting to the real thing, if you know what I mean.) Virgos and Capricorns do behave in a standoffish, even prudish way, but that's becasue they're very picky. But once they find someone who reaches their standards, they're very natural, earthy, devoted lovers.
Q. What kind of a date would impress an Earth Sign?
A. Remember these folks, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are pragmatic, so they won't be as impressed when you pick them up for a date in a rented limosine as if you pick them up in a nice car you actually own and can pay for because you make a nice income. Having a good job can be the ultimate aphrodisiac for practical Earth Signs!
Q. Are there Signs that don't get along?
A. Sure - there's tension between some signs ... and just a lack of things in common between other signs. Frankly, most everyone confesses to outright not liking at least one or two signs of the zodiac. But that doesn't mean we should avoid the signs that bug us.. and we often can't because they end up as family members, bosses, children, or even spouses!
One of the reasons I wrote Astrology's Secrets to Hot Romance was to assist others in building great relationships by learning how to resolve relationship conflicts. There are actions and attitudes each and every sign can use to find value and connection with any other sign, and I describe them clearly in this book. Heck, sometimes just knowing that a certain sign is born to act a certain way, (and that they're not doing something just to drive us crazy!) is healing in and of itself. Tolerance and acceptance go a long way in helping relationships flourish, and Astrology's Secrets shows you how to do that.
